Faith Advisory Council

The Alameda County Faith Advisory Council (FAC) is an open membership group comprised of faith leaders, child advocates, and supporters of child welfare improvement in Alameda County.

Vision

All children will grow-up safe and healthy in stable, respectful, and loving families.

Mission

The FAC mission is to unite community groups, churches and other faith institutions, community organizations, and individuals in a call to action that will help strengthen the capacity of the Department of Children and Family Services, to improve outcomes for children and youth in Alameda County.

Goal

FAC and the Alameda County Social Services Agency, Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) have joined together to recruit 400 county licensed foster family homes for Alameda County children and youth by 2009.

FAC members strongly believe that they can provide effective, measurable assistance to the DCFS through a shared focus, corporative ministries, and strategic action to support foster family recruitment and retention in Alameda County.

Objectives

The FAC works in collaboration with the Alameda County Social Services Agency, Department of Children and Family Services and the Alameda County Social Services Agency Director to review foster family related policies, programs, and strategies to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Increase awareness about the critical need for culturally diverse foster family homes in Alameda County.

  2. Enable faith leaders to actively recruit potential foster parents through their community work and congregations.

  3. Collaborate with the Social Services Agency to surmount obstacles to foster family recruitment, licensing, and retention.
